Open Lab Evening: Green AI – Breaking Tradition, Breaking Bread

Workshop on Green AI, food waste, and sustainable food production at the Futurium Lab.

The Open Lab Evening “Green AI – Breaking Tradition, Breaking Bread” will take place on August 13, 2026 at the Futurium Lab in Berlin. The event explores how the food industry can become more sustainable and what role artificial intelligence can play in this transition.

The workshop takes a practical look at the production processes of a Berlin donut bakery. Participants will learn how AI in ordering processes and human-in-the-loop approaches can help reduce food waste. The event also presents insights from the Green-AI-Hub research project, including experiments with bread waste and models for citizen participation.

The workshop is held in cooperation with the Berlin Open Lab at Berlin University of the Arts. Together with researchers, participants will explore how design research, traditional and emerging methods, and AI-based approaches can contribute to more sustainable forms of agriculture, food production, and land use.
