The Machine Learning and Uncertainty Working Group at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt develops and validates AI methods for applications in neuroscience and medicine. The working group researches Bayesian methods for bioelectromagnetic inverse problems, functional brain connectivity, model explanations, synthetic reference datasets, benchmarking and uncertainty estimates. The methods support the diagnosis and characterisation of neurological and psychiatric disorders, the analysis of intensive care data, brain-computer interfaces and standardised quality control of medical AI systems.
