Shaping Inclusive AI for Ageing Societies

Conference on inclusive AI, ageism, participation, and technology design in ageing societies.

The conference “Shaping Inclusive AI for Ageing Societies” will take place on October 22–23, 2026 at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. The annual meeting of the Socio-Gerontechnology Network brings together researchers from socio-gerontechnology and related fields to explore how artificial intelligence can be developed and implemented in ways that support more inclusive ageing.

A central question is how AI systems can move beyond assumptions of a homogeneous “older user” and instead reflect the diverse needs and realities of ageing populations. Topics include ageism and other forms of bias, digital inequalities, participation and access, as well as the social, political, and ethical conditions surrounding AI adoption.

Panels and discussions will address AI and health, feminist and intersectional approaches, participatory design with older adults, AI governance, communicative AI, assistive technologies, and the role of technology in shaping emotions and identity.
