Beyond the Hype: Which AI Skills Does the Job Market Demand?

Guest talk on how demand for AI skills in Germany has evolved since 2020 and what AI means for IT professionals, employers, and workforce development.

Artificial intelligence is changing the labor market, but which skills are employers actually looking for? In this guest talk hosted by the AI Service Center Berlin-Brandenburg at the Hasso Plattner Institute, Olga Golubchykova, Head of Research at the index Group, presents findings from the AI Skills Monitor (KI-Kompetenzmonitor).

Drawing on analyses of job advertisements, the talk examines how demand for AI-related skills in Germany has developed since 2020. It considers the effects of the pandemic, accelerated digitalization, the emergence of ChatGPT, and changing regulatory requirements, while also highlighting differences across industries and occupational profiles.

A particular focus is on computer scientists and IT professionals: Which tasks could AI automate or accelerate? Where does human expertise remain essential? And which skills are becoming increasingly important? The session provides data-driven insights for employers, employees, educators, and professionals involved in workforce development.
