The AI and Biomolecular Structures Department at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie develops application-oriented AI methods for experimental structural biology. The department uses machine learning, neural networks, statistical methods and clustering to interpret two-dimensional and three-dimensional data and investigates generative models and language models for structural biology data. The methods support the analysis and quality assessment of biomolecular structures from crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy and contribute to virus research, pandemic preparedness and computer-aided drug development.
